Design in VR
Take workspace and workstation design to the next level in VR
Two innovative tools for designing your workspaces and workstations in VR
Since 2016, we have been developing and using VR to create workspaces and workstations, in close collaboration with our clients. Developed by our internal R&D team to improve our work processes, SymLab and SymView provide an efficient, fun, fast, and precise workspace where you can collaboratively design, evaluate, validate, and approve immersive solutions in a shared VR environment.
SymLab: farther, better, faster, together
SymLab, Symbio’s flagship tool, serves as an interactive laboratory. It has revolutionised the way we design our workspace and workstation solutions.
SymLab offers a unique environment in which you can design your workspaces and workstations along with us. Once you put on the VR headset, you will instinctively adapt to the new VR environment and be able to simulate your usual tasks, test an idea, move a console or a screen, and play a role in the evolution of your space.
Farther
SymLab makes it easy to tackle issues that cannot be addressed with traditional 2D or 3D methods.
Better
SymLab offers a level of precision that simply cannot be matched with traditional tools.
Faster
SymLab allows you to work up to 10 times faster than you can with existing methods. During sessions at your place of work, you can use the software to directly modify or validate models in VR.
Together
You can participate in the design and validation processes during lively work sessions. You also have access to the -hardware and software, so you can design independently of our work sessions.
Design workspaces in SymLab
At Symbio, we organise your space to best meet the operational needs of your teams by facilitating information exchange, information-gathering, and traffic flow.
All your workspace-specific equipment is modelled on the basis of a catalogue of objects that are standard or that are specific to your infrastructure.
We design your workspace from the inside. You, your team, your IT manager, or your architect can immediately assess, adjust, and validate the solutions that we develop together. Because all SymLab work sessions are streamed on a shared screen, everyone in the room can follow the design work and give their opinion or come up with new suggestions.
Operational needs are visualised in terms both of interactions among users and of access to information (on screens, video walls, and so on).
The ergonomics of the workspace organisation are validated with dedicated tools, in compliance with the relevant standards (for lighting, acoustics, HVAC, and so on.).
ISO 11064 | ISO 9241 | NEN 1824:2010 |
NBN ISO 11226 | EN1335 | NPR 1813 |
EN 527 | NBN-EN 12464-1 | NBN EN 17037 |
ISO7730 | NPR3438 |
Once it is determined that the workspace meets ergonomic standards and operational needs, it is approved.
The final 3D model and plans, which help create specifications for architects, are produced.
Design workstations in SymLab
At Symbio, what is most important, from an ergonomic standpoint, is the user's interaction with the equipment that is available at their workstation, in terms of information-gathering and physical accessibility.
Process
All the workstation-specific equipment is modelled, based on a catalogue of objects that are standard or that are specific to your infrastructure.
The mannequins representing the users, which are made specially for each project, are set up based on the characteristics of the target-user base and the body postures they adopt as they are working.
Your teams and our experts position the equipment as needed during interactive SymLab sessions. As all SymLab work sessions are streamed on a screen, everyone in the room can follow the design work and give their opinion, come up with new suggestions, or even pick up the headset to implement them right away.
Thanks to SymLab’s internal ergonomic-validation systems, which are powered by dedicated tools, we can verify that the solutions we develop comply with the relevant standards and the musculoskeletal requirements of the target-user base, with their long-term health in mind.
The fully optimised workstation undergoes final approval.
Furniture for the workstation is chosen from the catalogue.
Can't find the perfect piece of furniture? We can design and manufacture it for you!
We provide the plans and specifications that are required for an invitation to tender to design and produce the furniture.
SymView: explore the future
SymView is the viewer for workspaces and workstations previously designed in SymLab.
With SymView, all of your stakeholders can now visualise and explore your project at each key stage. It also makes it possible, once the design project is finished, to experience the solutions that have been developed and gain a real understanding of what the final result will look like. A SymView model of the solutions is one of our trademark deliverables.
