Symbio has been using virtual reality (VR) for some years to support the visualization and exploration of the control rooms they design for their customers. Work has now started to develop two software applications that will push the effort further.

SymLab will be used to design control rooms and work consoles directly in VR, in a participative way, with end users. In SymLab, users will be able to manipulate their environment, move furniture or equipment, define new layouts for the room, work on lighting, acoustic and HVAC equipment positioning, as well as on the materials and colors to be used for the room and console finishings. The content of the VR headset will be streamed to an electronic projector, so that all participants to the design meeting can interact and participate to the design.

In SymView, the users will be able to experience the finished room and consoles in full details, with improved graphics and more realism.
